The Levant Health Network was set up in Amman in 2013 by Jordanian and Syrian medical staff, to assist the communities reached by population movements across the region. It has 61 staff, 22 of them doctors and nurses, and six equipped mobile clinics.
The teams run a weekly round of visits to locations agreed with the local health authorities; each pass records the number of consultations, the medicines handed over and the referrals to hospital facilities. Alongside the rehydration posts the network measures water quality in shared tanks, because acute diarrhoea remains the leading reason for paediatric visits.
