Community Build Collective started in Halifax in 1998 as a group of carpenters and teachers rebuilding schools after Atlantic hurricanes. It now works in South Asia and the Caribbean with 19 employees and crews hired locally for the length of each site.

The working method is fixed: a site survey, materials sourced within 50 kilometres, and training for at least six local masons per building. Since 2015 the organization has handed over 74 classrooms, roofs and community structures.

The drawings and bills of quantities for each job are handed to the local administration when the works close.
